Here’s a short video demonstrating a safe technique to properly remove gloves. We recommend using this technique as doing so will improve the safety of your work by preventing the transmission of bloodborne pathogens.
5 Simple Steps to Remove Gloves Safely
The basic rule to remember is: “Skin on skin, glove on glove”. Here are the 5 simple steps to follow :
- Pinch one glove and pull it down and off of your hand, turning it inside out.
- Pick this same glove in the palm of your gloved hand (don’t squeeze it to avoid splashing).
- Slide 2 bare fingers under the remaining glove, at the wrist, and pull it down and off your hand, turning it inside out.
- Dispose of the gloves properly.
- Wash your hands.
Change gloves as often as you need to avoid contamination. For example, you shouldn’t touch an ink bottle with gloves that have potentially been in contact with blood.
