We had the pleasure of speaking to Riccardo Anzano, an amazing stick and poke artist based in Padua. Here, he has his own tattoo studio called Sono Tattoos. We learnt about Riccardo’s hand poke journey and background, so keep scrolling to read more.
How did you learn to become a tattoo artist?
I learnt from having a lot of practice on my business partner and friends. I never tried on synthetic skin. But first you need a lot of passion and determination!
What is it that attracts you to stick and poke tattoos?
The thing that attracts me to stick and poke is the energy that is created, it’s meditative and spiritual for me. You don’t need electricity, you can do it everywhere and above all you have the silence.
What do you find most challenging about hand poked tattoos?
The accuracy. Every time I try to make it as solid and accurate as possible. Solid lines and beautiful shades.
If a stick and poke beginner asked you for your best advice, what would you tell them?
You need passion, patience and a lot of practice. Everything you want to do well you need to practice. Tattoo after tattoo you will always improve.
